Lion Dance, Live Music Performances & Shangri-La Wishing Tree
The Lion Dance has been a part of Chinese culture for many centuries and will kick-off the hotel’s Lunar New Year celebrations on January 22nd, 2023. Guests will see the lion dancers demonstrate their agility and skill, moving with the lion’s head and body to the beat of drums and the clashing of cymbals. The lion dancers will then make their way through the remaining parts of the hotel, bestowing wishes of good fortune and prosperity on Shangri-La Toronto in the Year of the Rabbit. Adding to the festivities at the conclusion of the Lion Dance, guests are invited to make a wish at the hotel’s wishing tree, located in the Lobby Lounge and enjoy a live performance by a traditional Chinese quartet. While enjoying the live music, guests can experience the return of the popular Lunar New Year Afternoon Tea and sip on this season’s latest cocktail aptly named Koi and featuring ingredients such as dragon fruit infused baijiu, lychee liqueur and mango.
LUnaR NEW YEAR HIGH TEA
The Lunar New Year New Year Afternoon Tea is priced at $98 per person and is served from Thursday to Sunday from 12 to 4 pm in the Lobby Lounge from Thursday January 19th 2023 to Sunday February 19th 2023. As part of their ongoing support of Make-A-Wish International, $5 from every Lunar New Year Afternoon Tea and Kid’s Afternoon tea will go towards granting wishes for critically ill children through the foundation.
Guests are invited to enjoy a Lunar New Year inspired Afternoon Tea menu featuring items such as:
Savoury dim sum including open purse dumplings with scallop, shrimp and bok choy, steamed dumplings with chicken and scallion, traditional har gow and a crispy tofu roll.
Savour Chef Calvin Wat’s individually hand-sculpted fruits: The Lychee, the Chestnut, and the Coconut along with the menu’s most visually impressive piece, The Hot Chili Pepper. The Hot Chili Pepper is bright red in colour and has auspicious meaning in the Chinese practice of Feng Shui where hanging a red chili pepper tassel is said to bring good fortune. To create this delicacy, hot chili pepper has been roasted, deskinned, marinated in lemon syrup then encased with three layers of chocolate cremeux, chili infused whipped ganache and a crispy chocolate shell. Finished with glossy lemon gel glaze, this dessert is spicy, but the heat dissipates within seconds and allow the flavours to linger beautifully.

Whether it's an inherited piece of jewellery, a treasured painting, or a newly acquired antique, each collection speaks to an experience, a story, and a connection to our heritage, culture, and personal histories. While insurance is a familiar concept, its importance in safeguarding high-value items and ensuring their legacy can continue, is often overlooked.
