Toronto’s vibrant Chinese community and the city's inclusive nature make it easy to find exceptional Chinese cuisine, representing diverse regions across China. Joining this rich culinary landscape is Mott 32, a globally renowned brand known for revitalizing traditional Chinese cuisine. Launched within the Shangri-La Toronto, this three-story restaurant honours its Asian heritage while connecting with the city’s multicultural spirit. This marks Mott 32’s second location in Canada, following the successful launch of its Vancouver branch in 2017.
Originating in Hong Kong, Mott 32 is celebrated for its dedication to authentic flavours and modern interpretations of classic dishes. Since its inception in 2014, the brand has rapidly expanded globally, with locations in Las Vegas, Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai, Cebu, and more. As it approaches its 10th anniversary, Mott 32 boasts nine locations worldwide, with new venues in Los Angeles, London, and Scottsdale on the horizon. The brand is committed to bringing authentic Cantonese recipes, with Beijing and Szechuan influences, to the table, using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations, premium ingredients, and a focus on sustainability.
Mott 32 pays homage to the first Chinese grocery store in New York City, located at 32 Mott Street, symbolizing a captivating blend of traditional and contemporary Chinese cuisine. The grand opening event in Toronto was a vibrant celebration of culture and culinary excellence, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of food lovers, industry professionals, and media representatives.
Attendees at the opening were treated to a preview of the restaurant's diverse menu, featuring meticulously crafted dishes, including the signature Peking duck, dim sum, and other specialty items. These modern recipes, refined over generations, embody Chinese culture and philosophy, offering a unique dining experience.
The Mott 32 in Hong Kong has won numerous awards for its interior design, and the Toronto location upholds this high standard. The venue includes a bar, lounge, private rooms, and a main dining area, accommodating various functions. A notable feature is the “Boom Boom Room,” where guests can observe the open BBQ kitchen. The ambiance is sophisticated yet welcoming, combining elegant decor with a warm, inviting atmosphere that enhances the dining experience. Murals throughout the second and third floors subtly reflect Chinese cultural influences in literature and performing arts.
The event also showcased Mott 32’s commitment to excellence in service and hospitality. The restaurant’s team of culinary experts and staff ensured that every detail was attended to, from the artful presentation of dishes to the attentive service provided throughout the evening.
Mott 32 is now open and ready to welcome guests eager to explore its unique menu and enjoy a memorable dining experience. As Mott 32 embarks on this new chapter in Toronto, it promises to become a key player in the city’s vibrant food scene, contributing to its ever-evolving culinary tapestry.
As Fête Chinoise celebrates its tenth anniversary, we couldn’t be more thrilled to see a brand like CHANEL weaving Asian cultural elements into its fashion narrative. From Hong Kong to Hangzhou, CHANEL’s presentations reflect a growing awareness of the region’s importance, both culturally and commercially.
