Guo Pei 2023 Barbie | Lunar New Year Collectible in Blue Brocade & Doll Wearing Golden-Yellow Gown

寶藍錦緞農曆新年款 & 黃皇后娃娃珍藏套裝

Renowned Chinese couturier Guo Pei combines her rich cultural heritage with contemporary innovation to create two couture pieces for Barbie. "Barbie X Guo Pei Sapphire Blue Brocade Lunar New Year Style" is draped in classic Chinese royal blue. This stunning doll features sumptuous dragon embroidery, balancing artistic heritage with contemporary innovation through Guo Pei’s signature craftsmanship. Golden earrings, a sparkly statement ring, and gold coloured pumps complement the custom creation. In another design, Barbie in a golden-yellow gown was inspired by Guo Pei's original design for Rihanna's dress for the Met Gala in colours once reserved solely for Chinese nobility. The stunning brocade gown features ornate embroidered details and a faux fur trim. A striking golden headpiece, golden accessories, and high-fashion shoes complete her look.

中國著名女裝設計師郭培，將她豐富的文化底蘊與當代創新相結合，打造了兩襲富有中國傳統韻味的時裝，俏麗時尚。「Barbie X 郭培的寶藍錦緞農曆新年款」，將標誌性的宮繡與金繡技藝融入其中，在華麗的金色祥龍刺繡中賦予了「吉祥」與「祝福」的寓意。而本次的服飾也融入了現代風的設計，兩件式的造型、金色水滴狀耳環、浮誇且閃亮的戒指與貴氣的高跟鞋，搭配上Barbie俏皮的短髮造型，和傳統中國風的設計相得益彰。另一襲則是穿上皇后禮服的芭比娃娃，以郭培為Rihanna設計的宴會裙靈感，採用過去只有中國貴族才能使用的顏色，加上華麗的刺繡細節和人造皮草飾邊，配襯亮麗的金色頭飾、金色配飾和高級時裝鞋使她的造型更加完美。

樂思手工製高音譜號旗袍扣結

Treble clef, or G clef, was originally just a simple letter 'G' written on the score and slowly evolved into its current shape. Royce Chau used the beautiful round curved shape of treble clef to make a modern Cheongsam button knot with traditional craftmanship, which is a perfect demonstration of mixing cultures and innovation.

高音譜號，又稱為G譜號，原本在樂譜上只是一個英文草書的G字，後來逐漸演變成今天大家都熟悉的高音譜號。樂思手工製以純手工製作，以優美的高音譜號圓弧形製作傳統旗袍扣結，是文化融合與創新的完美體現。

Ferris wheel Press x 香格里拉酒店文具系列 | Land of Shangri-La

Ferris Wheel Press proudly partnered with Shangri-La Hotels Canada to bring to life an unforgettable stationery collection that features a special edition 14k gold nib Brush Fountain Pen, a custom designed hardcover sketchbook, as well as a stunning sparkling fountain pen ink that captures the spirit of Shangri-La properties around the globe.

Originally inspired by James Hilton’s 1933 novel, Lost Horizon, the details of Shangri-La properties in both Vancouver and Toronto come to life. Known for their distinct modern-Asian style and 5-star hospitality, the essence of their properties, as well as the iconic landmarks that characterize these two Canadian cities present a real paradise.

Ferris Wheel Press 與加拿大香格里拉酒店合作，推出令人難忘的文具系列。其中包括特別版14K金筆尖鋼筆、精裝筆記簿以及黑色與金色交融的閃亮鋼筆墨水，捕捉了香格里拉酒店的神髓。設計靈感最初來自詹姆斯·希爾頓 1933年的小說《消失的地平線》，藉鑑了溫哥華和多倫多香格里拉酒店獨特的現代中國風風格和五星級熱情好客而聞名的細節，加上其神話般的天堂美譽，抓住了酒店的精髓，創造了這套令人一見傾心的系列。

Famille Rose Collection 粉彩陶瓷餐具系列

Inspired by the "famille rose" Chinese porcelain designs introduced in the 18th century, the collection features an array of fantastical birds & blooms in an eye-catching colour palette. It's framed by hand carved scrolling sides & finished with enamel that's durable enough for both everyday dining & special occasions.

以18世紀的中國“粉彩”瓷器設計為藍本，該系列以引人注目的特別色彩選擇，再加上一系列夢幻般的鳥類和花朵圖案為特色。手工雕刻的邊框和飾面，經久耐用，不論應用在日常用餐和特殊場合也令賓客感到優雅大方。

Canucks Jersey Design 溫哥華加人冰球隊兔年跳躍系列球衣設計

Full of energy, the rabbit running and jumping with the “Canucks” represents a leap into the Year of the Rabbit, celebrating the team and fans speeding ahead into the future. The pattern on rabbit’s leg is integrated with the iconic speed lines from the original Skate logo. The Ruyi pattern signifies the good fortune that will follow the Vancouver Canucks and their fans throughout the zodiac year.

Logo設計所圍繞的主題是速度和躍進。活力四射的兔子奔跑跳躍，代表與温哥華冰上曲棍球加人隊共同進入新的一年，同時慶祝球隊和球迷加速前進沖向未來。兔子後腿上的圖案與原版冰鞋徽標上標誌性的速度線完美契合，融為一體。中國傳統的如意紋則像徵著加人隊與球迷，在整個兔年都會有着順心如意、趨吉避凶的好運氣。

905 Cap 兔年棒球帽

Design: Bonnie Cheung for CCYAA (Canadian Chinese Youth Athletic Association)

The main 905 logo is inspired by the red pigment seals carved out of stone that we often see used in East Asian culture. They were used more in the past, but are still in use today as a signature or sign of approval.

The 905 bunny is a way to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit in a whimsical style. The designer also reimagined the 905 numbers in the shape of a rabbit. With the backdrop of a red moon behind the rabbit, it truly felt complete. The design set out to be inclusive and fun for Lunar New Year celebration!

905的標誌靈感來自東亞文化中經常採用的圖章以及紅色顏料蓋印為藍本。設計師認為，在兔子身後一輪紅月的襯托下，感覺很完整。總括來說，設計精密，但以有趣的方式表達來慶祝農曆新年！

“Feast” Tea Towel 《盛宴》茶巾系列

Fête Chinoise's "Feast" hand-illustrated tea towel features a parade of traditional Chinese dishes for a celebratory dinner, with a nod to many household porcelain dishes and familiar patterns. Steamed fish, lobster with ginger and scallion, Shanghainese pork belly, longevity noodles, and stir-fried lotus root are just some of the decadent dishes fondly remembered from childhood and still enjoyed today. Bunny Bag Collection 兔年限定手袋

LOEWE’s Bunny bag is a design classic, one which was re-imagined and given a special twist to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. With the ‘knot’ signifying human connection and good fortune among Asian societies, artisans create exquisite knots as decorations and gifts for good wishes. The Bunny bag builds on the atelier’s practise of creating adorable, three-dimensionalanimals from a clever pattern. Playful colour range of Peach Bloom, Ghost, and Dark Yellow,used to ensure the rabbit’s floppy ears are as soft to the touch as their cute, shearling pom-pom tails.

A Harmonious Manifesto: Tik Ka From East 迪嘉: 情懷未變

Tik Ka Ng, otherwise known as Tik Ka from East, creates art that wakes the consciousness and transports the observer into a vivid, fantastical dreamscape of colliding cultures. The Hong Kong-born multimedia artist who now resides in the United Kingdom has an unbridled talent for bringing the historical mysticism of East Asian arts (particularly Chinese mythology) and blending it with modern pop culture iconography into his work.

Haute Décor: de Gournay’s Hand-painted Wallpapers Are Couture For The Home 綻放牆上的浮華世界

If walls could talk, they might describe an idyllic Chinese landscape, animated by plumed birds, luscious flowers and undulating rice paddy grasses. Attention would also be lavished on the brilliance of the rich blue, green, red and gold colours as well as the intricacy of the hand-painted design, so exquisitely detailed as to seem life-like. But only those walls covered in panels of de Gournay wallpaper would possess the eloquence to do these scenes justice.

Breaking Tradition Within A Tradition: Jameson Yap 葉彥晨: 自在如水「流書」體

It isn’t often that you hear a calligrapher cite Pablo Picasso as a major influence, but that’s exactly what Jameson Yap shared when we sat down to talk about his inspiration, process and journey. It turns out that Picasso was very much a fan of the ancient Chinese art, even going so far as to proclaim: “Had I been born Chinese, I would have been a calligrapher, not a painter.”

As a special spotlight on one of our committee members, Sue Tang is a special individual who has not only well-achieved in her professional career, she is also a role model when it comes to volunteering and building community. Recently, Sue was recognized as one of the Chinese-Canadian Legends, which celebrates many veterans in the community for their decades of achievement. Amongst other winners which included Dr. Chester Ho, David Leung, photographer James Lin, Jenny Pu, and Daniel Quan-Watson.

John actively explores notions of culture in his design approach. 朱達誠 Chu Tat Shing Toronto Art Exhibition

The “Art at Heart, Chu Tat-shing Exhibition” taking place at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto from August 4-13, 2023. This summer, Toronto welcomes renowned Hong Kong sculpture artist, Mr. Chu Tat-shing. The exhibition, a unique interplay of Eastern and Western cultures, showcases Toronto’s vibrant cultural diversity while offering a glance into Hong Kong’s rich heritage.

Introducing a New Book for Asian Heritage Month by Canadian Author — Nancy Lam: The Loyal Daughter

Asian Heritage Month is a fitting time to celebrate authors from the Asian-Canadian community, and new to the scene is immigration lawyer Nancy Lam. Her debut novel, The Loyal Daughter, is loosely based on her mother’s journey from China (Hong Kong) to Canada, spanning from the 1940s to present day. Told through the perspectives of a mother, daughter and grand-daughter, the story speaks to the myths and realities of the immigrant journey in North America which include complex relationships and generational challenges and trauma.

Remembering Ju Ming 朱銘, Sculptor and Artist

On April 22, 2023, the art world was saddened by the passing of sculptor Ju Ming 朱銘 who was aged 85. He was an internationally-renowned Taiwanese sculptural artist best known for his abstracted, blocky bronze and steel sculptures that masterfully depict human forms with unexpected sharp-edged shapes and a modern palette. A large number of his works are on permanent display in public areas around the world.

THE REINVENTION OF: CHEUK KWAN 關卓中：以生命影響生命

For 4 years, Cheuk crossed the globe, travelling to 13 countries, venturing behind kitchen doors to feature the journeys of 15 émigrés he found in each place. From Madagascar to Israel, from Brazil to South Africa, the real-life stories he uncovered along the way were more riveting than any work of fiction could ever be. Some were running from war, many from political oppression, a few from religious persecution; some were highly educated; some were farmers — yet all were forced to pick up a wok and a spatula — not because they loved Chinese food, but out of necessity.

A SENSE OF PLACE: JENNY YUJIA SHI 施雨迦：漂流成長記

Halifax-based, multimedia artist Jenny Yujia Shi talks a lot about growing roots. This is probably because her life has been uprooted almost too many times to count. Not surprisingly, much of her creative output centres around themes of displacement and dislocation, which she attributes to two defining moments in her life: the demolition of her childhood neighbourhood in downtown Beijing and then, the decade she spent navigating the immigration process here in Canada. Shi’s work is as poignant as it is beautiful.
